No patient will be taken for an elective surgery without PAC assessment. Patients are referred to anesthesia department for Pre-anesthesia assessment from Outpatient department, wards or from the casualty or emergency department. Patients are transferred to anesthesia department or operation theatre for the surgical procedure only after getting the confirmation from the anesthesiologist. (pre anesthetic check up assessment valid only for patients undergoing surgery with in the period of 14 days. Reassessment with reports needed otherwise.)
An anesthesiologist should assess all patients planning to undergo surgery. In case of emergency surgery, the preanesthesia assessment is done immediately prior to surgery and in case of elective / planned surgery, it is done at least one day prior to surgery and preferably 3 days prior to surgery. A preanesthesia assessment allows for the development of an anesthetic plan that considers all conditions and diseases of the patient that may influence the safe outcome of the anesthesia
